The Alestic.com web site has been redesigned. The old design was going on 8 years old. The new design is:
-
Mobile friendly (‘cause Google says so)
-
Always secure (‘cause Google says so)
-
Fast (‘cause Google says so)
Ok, so I still have a little improvement remaining in the fast dimension, but at least the site is static now and served through a CDN.
Since fellow geeks care, here are the technologies currently employed:
-
S3: static page hosting
-
CloudFront: CDN, https termination
-
Route53: DNS
-
Disqus: Comments, but only on demand
-
GitHub: Repository for site source (markdown)
-
hugo: Static web site generator
-
purehugo: Base theme
-
Ubuntu Font Family: Clean, clear, contemporary
Simple, efficient, and gets the job done.
The old site is available at http://old.alestic.com for a while.

Update 2016-11-12: Alestic.com is now running on a new CloudFormation stack, with components similar to the above, but entirely inside of AWS and automatically deployed when updates are made to the CodeCommit Git repository.
